Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga Classes Schedule
Hatha Yoga, the ancient system of asanas or postures designed to keep the body strong, flexible and in good health, is taught throughout the week by a variety of instructors using different methods. Asana is the third of the eight limbs of Yoga, as defined by the sage Patanjali in "The Yoga Sutras." In the practice of yogasana, the light of awareness (HA, consciousness) shines on the body's (THA, nature) postures and movements. For this reason, it is called HATHA Yoga. Yoga classes also include pranayama (breathing exercises) to increase stamina, release tension and revitalize all organs and systems of the body. Other yogic techniques to help cleanse the body and mind may also be included such as neti, a method to clear the sinuses, and others.
Instruction in the Sanskrit language is available for resident students and the interested public. Knowledge of Sanskrit grammar, as "science of vibration," gives a genuine understanding of the language and independent access to the meaning of the ancient scriptures.
